Just Start

土台編② ― 頭の中で正しい文を全部組み立ててから話そうとすると、口は永遠に開かない。ネイティブは「言い始めてから、残りを作る」。始めることが、次の言葉を引っぱり出す。話す頭への、二つめの入れ替え。

You want to say something. So you build the whole sentence in your head. You check it. Is the grammar right? Is it perfect? You wait. And then… the moment is gone. Or you are still building, and you say nothing at all.

Natives start before they are ready

A native does not wait. They start with the first piece. "I went to…" — and they do not know the end yet! They find the rest while they talk. "I went to… the cafe… near the park." The sentence grows in the air, not in the head.

Remember "That is a…"? The "a" comes out before "chair". The native starts, and fills in after. This is the same thing. Start first. Build later.

Starting pulls the rest out

This feels scary. "What if I start, and then I get stuck?" But here is the secret. Starting is the thing that brings the next word. When you say "I want…", your head now has to find the thing. The start pulls the rest out of you.

A broken sentence beats a silent one

Your old teacher wanted a perfect sentence. Throw that away. A broken sentence that you actually said is worth more than a perfect sentence inside your head. Speak first. Fix later. The flow only begins if you begin.

掟 RULES TO CITE

  • 全部を組み立ててから話さない。主語と動詞でまず口を開き、残りは言いながら作る。
  • 「始める」を先にやる。始めると、頭が次の言葉を探し始める。沈黙からは何も出ない。
  • 完璧な沈黙より、崩れた一文。出した文だけが直っていく。

典拠 SOURCES

  • ネイティブの発話は、文をすべて計画してからではなく「少し計画して、話しながら次を計画する」増分的な作り方をしている（言語産出の研究での増分性）。
  • フィラー（uh, well, you know）や言い直しは、失敗ではなく「話しながら作っている」証拠。流暢な話者ほど自然に使う。
